YasTech Summer Tour Series Part 4: Megan’s Gettin Hitched!

YASTECH SUMMER TOUR SERIES PART 4

Welcome back to our Summer Tour everybody! With this fun series we are following around our YasTech team on their summer vacations. Our team has some pretty amazing summer plans scoped out and we are excited to share some of the best pits, peaks, tips, and pics with you all!

Last time we heard about Mike’s trip to the Rockies. This was definitely a scenic trip for our little YasTech mascots (Brooklyn & Ty), who were seeing the mountains for their first time!

Next up is… me (Megan)! I had a super awesome trip to the Shuswap. I caught up with tons of my family and friends and brought back some very exciting news to the office! Check out my trip below (not switching to third person though…that would just be weird).

Edition 4: Megan Wingate

Name: Megan Wingate
Position: Sales & Marketing Manager
# of Days on Holidays: 9
KM’s from YasTech Headquarters: 1,200 km

Where did you go on your holiday?

Kamloops
Shuswap Lake
Johnson Lake
Vernon

What was the pit and peak of your trip?

Pit: Leaving! Even though the weather wasn’t the hottest, it is always hard to leave behind your friends and family.

Peak: Getting engaged to my best friend! Though the proposal itself was a little dicey (having to crawl up a slippery waterfall and carry a ring in his pocket while we swam out to it). He gets crafty points for thinking ahead and bringing a zip-lock sandwich bag to protect the merchandise.

What was the best thing you ate or drank on the trip?

Favourite meal:Peter’s Pasta! This is a little local jem in Kamloops. True to its name, Peter, who hails from Italy, truly makes the best pasta I have ever had. But almost as good as his pasta is the homemade salad dressing. You can literally look around the restaurant at any time and see people licking their plates clean. When salad makes you lick your plate… you know you are doing something right.
Favourite drink: Beer and OJ. How can you go wrong with that?

What was the one MUST DO thing you did on this trip (that you would recommend to others)?

Definitely go check out Johnson Lake. It is so quiet and peaceful. There are no public beaches and very little development near by. The water is crystal clear and it is absolutely beautiful. A great place to relax and break away from the typical hustle and bustle lifestyle.

Did you check off any of your ‘bucket list’ items on your trip?

Yes! I am getting married!
Oh and also… had my champagne birthday! 26th on the 26th! That only happens once in a lifetime!

Who did you travel with or to see?

I traveled with my fiancé Cory (ha! that’s fun to say). We visited with tons of family and friends along the way. I even managed to catch my good friend’s wedding in Vernon.

How did you get there?

We flew from Saskatoon, but once we arrived in Kamloops we road tripped all over.

On our trip to Johnson Lake I got so excited to hang with my friend and sister that we may have forgotten about getting gas (apparently that is a necessary part of a successful road trip). Luckily we came across an old town in right in the nick of time to keep our road trip rockin.

Welcome back to our Summer Tour everybody! With this fun series we are following around our YasTech team on their summer vacations. Our team has some pretty amazing summer plans scoped out and we are excited to share some of the best pits, peaks, tips, and pics with you all!

Last week our lead designer Travis shared his epic trip to see his beloved Toronto Blue Jays. He also managed to sneak in a day trip to Niagara Falls with his girlfriend Lisa.

Next up, the our head honcho Mike heads off with his fam jam to explore the Rockies! This was an especially exciting trip as our little YasTech mascots (Brooklyn & Ty) had never seen the mountains before! Needless to say, I think they got their fill. Check out all the fun this fam got up to.

Drumheller
Kananaskis

What was the pit and peak of your trip?

Pit: Thunderstorm in Drumheller that prevented us from going into large metal T-Rex. Apparently it’s not safe to go up into a large metal dinosaur while it is lightning outside?

Peak: Seeing 4 large grizzly bears in the wild in one day.

What was the best thing you ate or drank on the trip?

Favourite meal: Campfire casserole. Nothing beats cooking over a camp fire.
Favourite drink: COFFEE! ☕️ ?

What was the one MUST DO thing you did on this trip (that you would recommend to others)?

Definitely go spend at least half a day at Moraine Lake. One of the most beautiful places on earth. You can hike and canoe while you’re there as well.

Did you check off any of your ‘bucket list’ items on your trip?

Mike – No.
Ty & Brooklyn – Yes, mountains!

Who did you travel with or to see?

I travelled with my wife Lindsay and kids Brooklyn and Ty.

How did you get there?

We took our truck and camper and camped in three different parks. Other than a couple noisy kids in the back seat from time to time, the trip went quite smooth.

YasTech Summer Tour Series Part 2: Travis is up to bat!

YasTech Summer Tour Series Part 2

Welcome back to our Summer Tour everybody! With this fun series we are following around our YasTech team on their summer vacations. Our team has some pretty amazing summer plans scoped out and we are excited to share some of the best pits, peaks, tips, and pics with you all!

Last week our Lead Developer, Muhammed, shared the highlights of his holiday to Europe! Muhammed is a very talented photographer in his spare time, so he also shared his full albums of each country (Egypt, Germany, Amsterdam). There are some pretty killer shots in there, so be sure to check them out!

Picking up where we left off, Travis is up to bat – literally. Check out what our Lead Designer had to say about his trip to see his beloved Toronto Blue Jays.

Edition 2: Travis Robinson

Position at YasTech: Lead Web Designer
# of Days on Holidays: 5
KM’s from YasTech Headquarters: 3,081 km

Where did you go on your holiday?

Toronto, Ontario
Oakville, Ontario
Niagara Falls, Ontario

Niagara falls

What was the pit and peak of your trip?

Pit: Waiting in hour and half long line ups to go up the CN Tower and going on the Horn Blower at Niagara Falls. (Whoever came up with that name for the boat should be fired)  Rookie Mistake: Buying a new pair of shoes not meant for walking around Toronto only to wear them all day walking around Toronto. My feet were killing me after that day.

Peak: As a pretty die hard baseball fan going to see the Blue Jays 3 times was definitely the highlight of my trip. Most notably, Bruce (my girlfriend’s dad) “catching” a foul ball. He’ll tell you he made this amazing one-handed catch, saving his wife from getting hit. In actuality, it hit a seat 4 rows in front of us then bounced across the aisle hit another seat and eventually fell right into his lap.?

What were the best things you ate or drank on the trip?

Favourite meal: The foot long hot dog at the Blue Jays game with all of the toppings. Grilled onions and peppers along with mustard, relish, and a few other toppings that I don’t know the names of but tasted amazing.
Favourite drink: King Size Bud Light. Almost 3 beers in 1. Can’t do much better then that.

What was the one MUST DO thing you did on this trip (that you would recommend to others)?

You must go up the CN Tower and stand on the glass floor. If you don’t get a little sick to your stomach looking down on the glass floor, you are lying.

CN tower

Did you check off any of your ‘bucket list’ items on your trip?

Yes. Blue Jays Game.

Who did you travel with or to go see?

Girlfriend and her parents/grandma. Also we stayed with her Uncle in Oakville.

How did you get there?

We flew from Saskatoon to Toronto. To get around while we were there we rented a car. As we are about to leave the airport from the rental car area there is a gate where the rental company inspects the vehicle and looks at your paperwork / drivers license. The lady says to my girlfriend’s dad (Bruce), “Sir, you can’t drive this vehicle!” Bruce looks at her and was confused like why not, I already paid for it and signed the contract. The lady says, “Your license is expired.” So my girlfriend’s mom looked at her license it was expired too!

In the end I ended up driving around Toronto.

YasTech Summer Tour Series Ft. Muhammed

YasTech Summer Tour Series

Summer is in full swing here at the YasTech office, and we have been busy bee’s these last couple months. Not that we are complaining. Actually, this July has been our craziest July in our 10 years of business! Which is clearly awesome. Keep it coming Saskatoon!

Despite our hectic web development schedule, it is important for our team to enjoy some R & R of their own. I mean, we only get so many weeks of non-tundra conditions, right?

Though we will be showcasing many of our new killer sites in the upcoming weeks, we thought we would shed some light on our team’s adventures this summer.

Thus we are proud to present the YasTech Summer Tour Series!

Our team has some pretty amazing summer plans scoped out and we are excited to share some of the best pits, peaks, tips, and pics with you all!

Where did you go on your holiday?

Germany: Frankfurt
Egypt: Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia
Netherlands: Amsterdam

What was the pit and peak of your trip?

Pit: Egypt was so hot –  above 40 C!  I also got stuck coming through the USA Border on my way back to Canada for more than 2 hours and almost missed my flight back to Vancouver.
Peak: Spent Ramadan with my family

What were the best things you ate or drank on your trip?

Favourite meal: Koushari
Favourite drink: Fresh Mango juice

What was the one MUST DO thing you did on this trip (that your would recommend to others)?

Visit Amsterdam and eat their cheese. There is A LOT.

Did you check off any of your ‘bucket list’ items on your trip?

Yes! I tried Fly Boarding. It was awesome!

fly boarding

Who did you travel with or to see?

I traveled to Egypt to see my family.  I went to Alexandria with one of my friends,  and met two of my friends in Amsterdam.  One came by bus from Berlin, Germany and spent two days with me.

How did you get there?

In all, my summer vacation took me on 6 different planes.

I flew on Lufthansa (love Lufthansa) to Amsterdam and then from Amsterdam to Vancouver on United Airlines.

On my way to Amsterdam from Munich,  there was an issue in the plane’s engine after we boarded, so we had to change planes.  I didn’t care much, as I was sleeping while they figured out the problem – more sleep for me?.

On my way back to Canada in AMS airport,  they asked if I wanted to switch to a direct flight but I since I had my friend waiting me, I declined their offer and stuck with my plan to try United Airlines ( overseas flight and short distance). Turns out this was a bad decision and I should have accepted the offer ?.  As I mentioned, I ended up getting stuck in the USA border control for more than 2 hours. After they released me I had to find my luggage and drop them then run from terminal to terminal in Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Once I arrived to the gate, just 20 mins before they closed,  they announced that the flight has been delayed.  The total delay time was 80 mins – Definitely didn’t need to run! ?

Your trip in a nutshell:

Spent Ramadan with my family, saw my friends and eat a lot of cultural food. Visited 2 new cities (Frankfurt and Amsterdam), visited new airport (Chicago O’Hare International Airport), tried new water sport in Amsterdam (fly boarding). Tried new airlines Lufthansa and  United Airlines (will never travel on that one again).  Tried delicious cheese in Amsterdam. Visited Alexandria and went to the beach.

Books read/ Netflix series devoured:
